SUMMARY:Examining Early Intervention Practices
DESCRIPTION:Examining Early Intervention Practices: Balancing Agency and Au
tonomy in Supporting Child Development\n\nEarly intervention is a critical
component of effective outcomes for autistic children. The field of behav
ior analysis was one of the first to publish research demonstrating method
s that produced differences in outcomes (Lovaas\, 1987). However\, substan
tial research has occurred since this time to better understand social com
munication and language development as well as the trajectories of autism
based on interventions received. This presentation provides a summary of t
he current research in Early Intervention relating to Naturalistic Develop
mental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) and development of social-communic
ation. Additionally\, the presentation explores ethical considerations rel
ating to how intervention is delivered and the impact of the over-use of e
 xtinction procedures.\n\nPresented by Dr. Megan DeLeon\, PhD\, BCBA-D\n\nF
