SUMMARY:Trauma Informed and Compassionate Care — The Future of ABA
DESCRIPTION:Although “trauma” and “trauma-informed care” have becom
 e mental health buzzwords in recent years\, many in the field of Applied B
 ehavior Analysis do not possess a working knowledge of the mechanisms of i
 ndividual and caregiver trauma and the impacts trauma can have on behavior
  and measurable outcomes. These deficits in knowledge may lead to the use 
 of outdated protocols and procedures\, which can unknowingly retraumatize 
 clients and families\, hinder meaningful progress\, and ultimately lead to
  secondary trauma and burnout amongst practitioners. The ways in which ABA
  has always been trauma informed and the new ways in which the focus is be
 ing more brought to address that\, need to be reviewed and built into our 
 daily practice. This training aims to review current research regarding tr
 auma and the associated effects of trauma on behavior\, identify the compo
 nents of trauma-informed care\, and describe ways to infuse trauma-informe
 d and compassionate care within the scope of practice of ABA practitioners
 . Additionally\, this training will include strategies to recognize the si
 gns of secondary trauma amongst practitioners and families and identify wa
