Event Description

This presentation will aim to “demystify” the mid-level terms used in acceptance and commitment training so as to make the approach more accessible to the clinicians. Further, we will discuss the various threats (e.g., burnout, compassion fatigue, stress) to workplace well-being, and work via an acceptance and commitment training perspective to reframe how we interact with said threats at individual and organizational levels. We will explore the myriad ways in which a flexible behavioral repertoire (e.g., when faced with challenging covert verbal behavior) may serve to allow employees to continue to contact verbally-constructed long-term reinforcers (i.e., values) by clearly defining behaviors related to accessing reinforcers (i.e., committed actions).

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will be able to describe derived relational responding in the context of aversive covert verbal behavior to account for maladaptive patterns of behavior
  • Attendees will be able to describe applications of a language-based intervention to promote prosocial behavior that contacts contingency-shaped behavior vs. rule-governed behavior in the workplace
  • Attendees will be able to discuss the application and manipulation of motivating operations at organizational levels (e.g., within systems)
