April 02, 2023
To commemorate World Autism Awareness Day, the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is extending our hours on Saturday, April 2, for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky history will open an hour early (9:00 am to 10:00 am EST) and close an hour later (5:00 pm to 6:00 pm EST) exclusively for individuals with ASD and their families.
During these hours, KHS will provide low noise levels, filtered lights, pictorial signs, and quiet spaces in the exhibit “A Kentucky Journey” to meet the specific needs of the autism community. Can’t visit during these times? Sensory backpacks are available for loan at the welcome desk of the Kentucky History Center. Our backpacks include a weighted plush pet, noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses, and more to help young learners on the autism spectrum experience the museum.
