Skinner Session: “Reflections on Behaviorism and Society”

Behavior Live is excited to announce the release of the book “Reflections on Behaviorism and Society”. The book was originally published in 1978, and to commemorate this occasion, we are hosting a “Skinner Session,” which will include speakers who played a crucial role in the book’s publication, as well as researchers who are experts in the themes addressed in this book.
The 1978 edition contained 18 articles, which comprised some of Skinner’s most insightful analyses and commentaries. Some of the notable articles in this collection include “The Ethics of Helping People,” “Why I am Not a Cognitive Psychologist,” “The Free and Happy Student,” “The Force of Coincidence,” and “Freedom at Last from the Burden of Taxation.”
The new edition of the book has been extended in several ways:
- We have added 6 articles that have not previously appeared in any collection of Skinner’s papers.
- Many articles have been supplemented with some of Skinner’s notes and autobiographical passages that extend, illuminate, or add context to the article.
- We have added a section called “Reflections Illustrated” that features photographs and sketches thematically related to one or more of the articles.
- We have added a section called “On the Lighter Side” that showcases several of Skinner’s parodies and spoofs, including his remarks on the occasion of Keller’s 90th birthday.
