What is Occupational Therapy?
This crucial therapy stems from the definition of the word, “occupation,” which is “an activity in which one engages.” So, what is a child’s occupation? Learning and play, which provide the building blocks for a lifetime. At centers with Occupational Therapists, they customize a plan that addresses fine motor skills, perceptual and cognitive skills, handwriting, self-care skills, feeding, social skills and sensory processing from the beginning to set them up for success in school and beyond. See if an OT Evaluation is right for your child.
What is Feeding and Swallowing Therapy?
It is important to make sure your child gets the nutrition he or she needs, so our therapists tackle feeding from behavioral, occupational and speech therapy angles. Sometimes it’s focusing on building muscle-related skills, since those used to chew are the same used to form words. Other times we aim to build tolerance with help from positive reinforcement and other behavior techniques.
